Product Information

Create an edgier look with these Classic Honed and Filled travertine tiles. Light tones of beige background colour is complimented by natural variation which will create a unique look. These tiles are designed for use in residential areas.

Filling is a process in which cement based compound is used to plug cavities found in travertine to make the surface smooth. This only fills holes apparent on the surface; therefore holes may still present at back of the tile. Travertine is usually filled first, and then honed to provide smooth and matt look. From time to time, small holes may emerge which can be filled; this is only part of the natural process.

Installation & Care

All products listed here can be purchased from our online store (Adhesive, grout, sealers or maintenance items).

General Information for Tile & Stone:

  • Substrate should be clean, dry, level and should not move. Decoupling membranes are recommended for flooring applications if shift in substrate is expected.
  • Dimensions listed here are nominal as slight variations in size and thickness may occur with most stone & porcelain tiles.
  • Minor edge chipping may occur in handling, installation & transport. During installation process, these can be used as cuts.
  • Natural stone can vary in colour, tone, size (within tolerance). During installation, mixing the tiles naturally (blending) are recommended rather than using similar shades together.

Adhesive:
  • Flexible adhesive is recommended, particularly substrates with movement, or when underfloor heating is at present or planned in installations.
  • All tiles must be solidly bedded.
  • Standard set adhesive sets slowly (24 hours) whereas fast set adhesive sets within 3 hours (depending on weather conditions).

Grouting:

  • Apply grout at least 12 hours after the tile installation.
  • Select width joint accordingly to accommodate any variation in tile sizes.
  • We recommend the use of flexible grouts.
  • When mixing multiple sizes together (i.e. patterns) the grout joint may vary in width between the varying sizes of tiles within the pattern.

Sealing & Maintenance:

  • All natural stone tiles need sealing during installation; Generally we recommend to apply one coat before grouting and one coat after grouting.
  • Depending on usage of the floor, re-seal the tiles every 6-12 months.
  • Use maintenance products that are manufactured for natural stone. Do not use acidic cleaners.

Are these tiles suitable for underfloor heating? Are they calibrated?

    • Stone Deals

Hello, The Travertine due to the fact it has holes as a stone and they are filled with a filler, with heat from the underfloor heating over time, the fillings might pop out over a prolonged time of use. However, some customers do still use these tiles with underfloor heating filling up any holes if it is necessary. For any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you
